Sign documents with Singpass in eSign.AI

eSign.AI integrates with Singpass, Singapore's national digital identity system, so signers verify with the credential they already use for government and banking services — and the signature they create carries legal weight under Singapore law. This demo walks through the complete Singpass signing journey inside eSign.AI, from Singpass verification to the signed document.

What this demo shows

The walkthrough runs 2 minutes 59 seconds and covers a single, uninterrupted signing session: the signer verifies their identity with Singpass, returns to eSign.AI, reviews the agreement and its signing fields, and completes the electronic signature — without switching to a separate signing app or re-authenticating.

How Singpass signing works in eSign.AI

  1. The document originator enables Singpass and can require it as the authentication method for the signing flow.
  2. eSign.AI generates a Singpass QR code. The signer scans it with the Singpass App and authorises the request.
  3. Singpass confirms the signer's identity and returns the signer to the eSign.AI signing session.
  4. eSign.AI compares the identity information returned by Singpass against the recipient information specified in the document.
  5. The signer reviews the agreement and its signing fields, then completes the signature in the same session.

The signer does not need a separate eSign.AI account, and no additional hardware is required beyond the Singpass App.

What the signed document records

Because the identity confirmed by Singpass is bound to the signing event, the completed document records who signed and how the signer was verified. The audit record for the signing event captures:

  • The Singpass-verified identity bound to the signing event
  • The authentication method used to verify the signer
  • The signing timestamp

The legal framework in Singapore: the ETA 2010

Singapore's Electronic Transactions Act 2010 (ETA) is the framework that gives electronic signatures legal effect. Section 6 provides that information is not denied legal effect, validity or enforceability solely because it is in electronic form, and Section 8 sets out how a requirement for a signature is satisfied electronically.

The ETA draws a distinction that matters when choosing a signing method:

  • Ordinary Electronic Signature (OES) — an electronic signature that does not meet the SES criteria below.
  • Secure Electronic Signature (SES) — an electronic signature that meets the SES criteria and therefore benefits from the legal presumptions in Section 19 of the ETA.

A signature qualifies as SES where either: (a) it is created and linked to its record such that any subsequent change to the record would invalidate the signature (tamper-evident), or (b) the certificate used to create it was issued by a public agency approved by the Minister to act as a Certification Authority.

Under (b), the Government Technology Agency (GovTech) was approved as a public certification authority on 11 October 2024, under paragraph 3(b)(iii) of the Third Schedule to the ETA. Singpass signing certificates have been issued by the GovTech CA since 2025; signatures created before that transition used the legacy National Certification Authority (NCA) certificates. GovTech states that documents signed through Sign with Singpass are regarded as Secure Electronic Signatures under the ETA.

If your workflow requires SES rather than OES — for example in regulated financial, legal or government contracting — the signed document's audit record is what lets a relying party verify how the signer was identified and that the record is intact.
