Minimum Reading Duration and Mandatory Full Reading

Note:

  • Applicable version: All versions.

When sending an envelope, you can set a minimum reading duration for designated signers. After opening the signing page, signers must complete the set reading countdown before they can proceed to submit their signature. This feature is suitable for contract scenarios requiring enhanced pre-signing reading prompts and supports both PC and mobile devices.

Note

  • Minimum reading duration is disabled by default.
  • Settings apply per signer; different signers in the same envelope can have different durations set.
  • This feature applies to both single envelope sends and batch envelope sends. Envelope templates currently do not support saving this setting.

Configure Minimum Reading Duration

When creating and sending an envelope, follow these steps to set the minimum reading duration for signers:

  1. Go to the Send Envelope page, add files, and fill in signer information.
  2. In the signer card that requires configuration, expand More Settings.
  3. Toggle on Minimum Reading Duration and set the reading time.

You can set a duration from 0 minutes 0 seconds to 15 minutes 59 seconds. If set to 0 or the toggle is turned off, the minimum reading duration will not be enabled.

  1. After completing other envelope settings, send the envelope. The setting will take effect along with the signer’s signing task.
> **Tip** > > If an envelope contains multiple signers, please verify the reading duration for each signer individually. Signers without a set duration will not be subject to the minimum reading duration restriction.

How Signers Complete the Reading Countdown

After opening the signing page, the system will display a prompt showing the remaining reading time. Before the countdown ends, signers can review the documents and complete any necessary signing preparations; upon submission, the system will verify whether the reading countdown has finished.

  1. Open the signing link and navigate to the signing page.
  2. If a signing declaration is displayed first, read and confirm it; the reading countdown will only start after the declaration is closed.
  3. Check the remaining reading time on the document page and wait for the countdown to finish.
  4. Once the countdown ends, proceed to complete the signing actions and submit.

Warning

Refreshing the page, exiting and re-entering the signing page, or restarting the batch signing process will reset the minimum reading duration countdown. Please complete the reading and signing within the same signing session.

Submitting Signature Before Countdown Ends

If a signer attempts to submit their signature before the countdown finishes, the system will prompt them to complete the reading countdown first. Simply wait for the required time and submit again.

  • On PC, when the reading constraint is enabled, the page will guide you to finish reading the documents first.
  • On mobile, the current reading status is verified upon submission; if the countdown hasn’t ended, a prompt will be displayed.

Multiple Documents and Combined Reading Requirements

The minimum reading duration is calculated as a whole for a single signing session, rather than accumulated per document. For example, if an envelope contains multiple documents, the countdown starts when the first document is opened and will not repeat due to the number of documents.

If the sender also enables Read to the End:

  1. The signer must complete the minimum reading duration.
  2. The signer must also scroll through every signing document in the task to the very end.
  3. Both requirements must be fully met before proceeding to submit the signature.

Note

In multi-document scenarios, “Read to the End” must be completed for each document individually; the minimum reading duration is still calculated only once for the entire signing session.

## Handling During Envelope Editing or Copying

When editing an envelope, you can modify the minimum reading duration for signers who have not yet completed their signatures. After saving, signers will refresh the page or re-enter the signing page to restart the reading process according to the latest settings.

Signers who have already completed their signatures cannot have this setting modified, in order to preserve existing signing records.

When copying an envelope, the system will copy the minimum reading duration settings; the new envelope will not inherit the countdown progress of the original envelope, so signers will need to complete the reading again.

Reading Requirements in Batch Signing

During batch signing, the system will mark envelopes that require reading in the list. After clicking Next, if there are envelopes that have not yet met the reading requirements, the system will guide you to complete the reading for the corresponding envelopes in list order.

After completing the reading requirement for one envelope and returning to the list, that envelope will be updated as read; once all envelopes requiring reading are completed, you can proceed with subsequent batch signing operations.

Precautions

Warning

  • The minimum reading time does not apply to silent signing or automatic signing scenarios.
  • In combined signing scenarios, if any party sets a minimum reading time, all parties must adhere to it; when different durations are specified, the system enforces the longest duration.
  • Envelope templates currently do not support saving or inheriting minimum reading time settings.
