Digital Signature Providers: 10 eSignature Vendors Compared
Digital signature providers supply the software and identity services that make an electronic signature legally enforceable across borders. This guide compares ten vendors that serve the general "who should we buy from" question, and it is deliberately separate from our home page (which explains the product category) and from our buyer guides on HIPAA, QES, and digital certificates.
How we compared these providers
The comparison below was reviewed on August 17, 2026 against each vendor's public website, pricing page, and published compliance documentation. Three rules shaped it:
- No unverifiable rankings or market-size claims. We do not repeat "top 10" ranking assertions from analyst reports we cannot reproduce, and we do not cite market-size figures we cannot trace to a source.
- No hard price points. Subscription pricing changes frequently and varies by region, seats, and envelope volume. We describe the pricing model (per-user vs. per-envelope, free tier, custom enterprise quotes) and link you to official pricing pages instead of quoting numbers that will go stale.
- eSign.AI is our own product. It is included for completeness because buyers compare it against the incumbents, and it is clearly labeled below so you can weigh it fairly.
Confirm current terms, security certifications, and regional coverage directly with each vendor during procurement.

Vendor profiles
DocuSign
Founded in 2003, DocuSign is the category pioneer and the benchmark for enterprise-scale electronic signature. It offers the broadest ecosystem of pre-built integrations and a mature developer API, and it documents support for U.S. ESIGN/UETA and EU eIDAS, including advanced and qualified signature flows where applicable.
- Strengths: enterprise administration, SSO, industry templates, deep API and connector catalog.
- Watch-outs: high-volume or API-heavy use can raise cost quickly; confirm regional data residency and APAC performance for your workloads.
- Best for: multinationals and teams that need a wide integration surface and are comfortable with per-envelope pricing.
Adobe Acrobat Sign
Adobe Acrobat Sign (which grew out of EchoSign) is strongest inside Adobe and Microsoft document workflows. It is a natural fit for teams already standardized on Acrobat, PDF, and Office, and it documents ESIGN, eIDAS, and HIPAA support (BAA tied to qualifying Business or Enterprise plans).
- Strengths: PDF-native signing, conditional fields, mobile capture, Microsoft 365 and Salesforce integrations.
- Watch-outs: advanced identity-verification add-ons sit in higher tiers; setup can be heavier for teams outside the Adobe/Microsoft stack.
- Best for: document-heavy legal, creative, and operations teams already invested in Adobe or Microsoft.
Dropbox Sign
Dropbox Sign (formerly HelloSign, acquired by Dropbox in 2019) prioritizes simplicity. It covers core ESIGN and eIDAS requirements and can support HIPAA workflows with a signed BAA and a minimum contract value.
- Strengths: intuitive interface, Dropbox-connected storage, straightforward API, template reuse.
- Watch-outs: fewer enterprise-grade administration and compliance controls than the largest vendors.
- Best for: SMBs and teams that want simple signing without a heavy admin layer.
PandaDoc
PandaDoc pairs e-signature with document automation aimed at revenue teams. It is less a pure signing tool than a proposal-and-quote platform with signing built in.
- Strengths: proposal and quote generation, content library, CRM connectors (HubSpot, Salesforce), engagement analytics.
- Watch-outs: advanced workflow automation requires higher tiers; it is broader than a standalone signature-only need.
- Best for: sales and proposals where the document lifecycle matters as much as the signature.
SignNow (airSlate)
SignNow, part of the airSlate workflow platform, competes on price and ease of deployment. It offers web-embed widgets and Zapier-style automation hooks.
- Strengths: low entry pricing, mobile signing, embeddable signing widgets, team templates.
- Watch-outs: API sophistication trails the enterprise leaders for complex custom workflows.
- Best for: SMBs, agencies, and non-profits that need dependable signing at a modest price.
OneSpan Sign
OneSpan Sign is the e-signature product of OneSpan (formerly VASCO Data Security); it grew out of the eSignLive platform. It targets highly regulated sectors — banking, insurance, and government — where fraud prevention and strong identity assurance matter more than broad consumer reach.
- Strengths: high-assurance identity verification, fraud detection, transaction-specific workflows, and strong compliance/security certifications.
- Watch-outs: enterprise custom pricing and a steeper learning curve; heavier than a small team needs.
- Best for: financial institutions and regulated enterprises with strict authentication requirements.
Zoho Sign
Zoho Sign is the signing component of the Zoho business suite. It is inexpensive and tightly integrated with Zoho CRM and the rest of the Zoho ecosystem.
- Strengths: budget pricing, reusable forms, team approvals, native Zoho CRM integration.
- Watch-outs: customization and advanced compliance controls are lighter than dedicated platforms.
- Best for: teams already running on Zoho that want signing inside their existing stack.
Signeasy
Signeasy is mobile-first and has a strong Asia-Pacific presence with local-language support. It is designed for signing on the go.
- Strengths: excellent mobile experience, offline signing, delivery through channels like WhatsApp, APAC local-language support.
- Watch-outs: large-organization administration and advanced compliance require higher tiers.
- Best for: freelancers, field teams, and APAC businesses where mobile signing dominates.
Xodo Sign
Xodo Sign (formerly eversign, now part of Apryse) is a straightforward, template-driven signing product for small and medium businesses.
- Strengths: clean interface, reusable templates, ESIGN/eIDAS support, available API.
- Watch-outs: lower brand recognition and a smaller integration ecosystem than the leaders.
- Best for: SMBs that want dependable signing without enterprise overhead.
eSign.AI (our product)
eSign.AI is our own platform, included here because buyers routinely compare it against the incumbents. It emphasizes cross-border and Asia-Pacific compliance, with regional identity integrations such as Hong Kong's iAM Smart and Singapore's Singpass, alongside ESIGN and eIDAS coverage.
- Strengths: cross-border and APAC coverage, regional identity integrations, volume pricing designed for cost-sensitive teams.
- Watch-outs: smaller global brand footprint than DocuSign or Adobe.
- Best for: cross-border and APAC teams that need regional identity methods without enterprise pricing.
A shortlist by buying situation
- Enterprise legal / procurement, global: start with DocuSign, Adobe Acrobat Sign, and OneSpan Sign (if you need high-assurance identity).
- Healthcare / HIPAA: our dedicated HIPAA-compliant eSignature guide covers BAA, access controls, and audit requirements in depth.
- Sales and proposals: PandaDoc if document automation matters, otherwise a simpler signing tool.
- Cross-border / APAC identity: eSign.AI, Signeasy, and DocuSign (confirm regional identity methods).
- Small team / budget: SignNow, Zoho Sign, Xodo Sign, or Dropbox Sign.
- API-first integration: DocuSign or a vendor with a documented developer platform; see our API integration feature page.
Procurement checklist
Before signing, ask each shortlisted vendor:
- Which regions and identity methods are covered, and where is signing data stored (data residency)?
- Which signature levels (SES, AES, QES) are supported, and through which trust service providers?
- Will they sign a BAA if you handle PHI, and on which plans?
- What are the envelope, seat, and API call limits at each tier?
- What does migration look like — template export, audit-trail export, SSO/SCIM?
- What audit evidence is produced, and can it be exported for legal holds?
Conclusion
There is no single "best" digital signature provider; the right choice is the one whose compliance coverage, identity methods, pricing model, and integration surface match your specific workflows. Start from the buying situation above, narrow to two or three vendors, then run a paid trial against your real documents before committing.
